The study of Biophysics at the Faculty of Science OU is closely related to the experimental research. Department of Physics guarantees the study of Biophysics at all degrees of higher education, i.e. bachelor’s degree (three-year study program in Physics, specialization in Biophysics), follow-up master’s degree (two-year study program in Applied Physics, specialization in Biophysics), and the doctoral degree (four-year study program in Biophysics and Physics of Nanostructures). More detailed information about the study of Biophysics can be obtained among the study programs offered by the Department of Physics at the Faculty of Science, OU (https://prf.osu.cz/kfy/nabizene-programy-a-obory/).
In addition to the necessary physical and mathematical foundation, biophysics students acquire knowledge of subjects including plant physiology and ecophysiology, photosynthesis, biophysics of biological membranes, and gain experimental skills (methods of optical spectroscopy, chromatography, fluorescence of chlorophyll a, biochemical and separation methods, and many others). An essential part of the study is also the student’s own scientific work as part of final theses, which primarily involve experimental research based on the scientific focus of the Biophysics group.
