Research projects are essential for the development of high-quality scientific work. However, obtaining grant funding is only the beginning. It is followed by several years of research, the fulfilment of the proposed objectives, and a final expert evaluation of the results achieved.
We are therefore delighted that Czech Science Foundation project No. 23-07744S, entitled Identification and characterization of structural entities associated with different lipid phases of plant thylakoid membranes, led by Prof. Győző Garab and carried out between 2023 and 2025, received the final rating “excellent.”
The Presidium of the Czech Science Foundation confirmed the assessment of the expert and advisory bodies, which recognized the project’s outstanding results, their compliance with high standards of scientific research, their contribution to the advancement of current knowledge, and their significant influence on the development of the field both in the Czech Republic and internationally.
The project focused on identifying and characterizing structural entities associated with different lipid phases in plant thylakoid membranes. It contributed to a deeper understanding of the organization and dynamics of photosynthetic membranes and of the role played by non-bilayer lipid structures in their function.
We regard this excellent rating as an important recognition of the work of the entire research team and its international collaborators. It also provides strong motivation to continue developing our research in plant biophysics and photosynthetic membrane organization.
